High School Dance Festival

Dear Dance Teachers,

Here it is! The 23rd Annual Arizona State High School Dance Festival. This is a fantastic opportunity for you and your students to participate in inspiring master classes and share in the experience of performing for and viewing  fellow dance students from around the state in an afternoon concert. In the past, this festival has hosted as many as 25 high schools.

WHEN:  The festival will be held on Saturday, March 29th at South Mountain High School. The morning will feature a wide variety of master classes and teacher sharing. Your students will have the opportunity to participate in 2 master classes in areas such as hip-hop, contemporary modern, African and Pilates (exact choices to be determined soon).

VIDEOS:   The performance will be video taped.  Members may purchase a video for only $15 and non-members may purchase a video for $30 (this is the cost to AzDEO from the videographer).  This video is an excellent resource for showing in class for the purpose of critiquing or other choreographic discussions.  Video purchase can be included in your festival registration OR you can bring cash and order on the day of the festival.

CLASSES:   Each student will take two dance classes.  Click on Class Selection below to request classes for your students.  For each student, you will provide their top four choices, in order of preference, and then they will be placed in sessions accordingly.  We will try to give each student their top choices, but space is limited.  Your students will be placed in classes after payment has been received.  We understand the difficulty of obtaining a check in a timely manner so a copy of your completed purchase order, or a check will be accepted as payment for these purposes.  All class placement will be handled by Jacque Genung-Koch @ Basha High School  When you complete the class selection form, it will be automatically submitted to them.  Click on Jacque's name above to email her with any questions.

Students will be allowed to take Jazz or Hip-Hop but not both so encourage your students to choose a variety of classes.

Music must be turned in at the registration table the morning of the festival. We are requesting that your music be the only song on a clearly marked CD.  We also request to keep the CD for the videographer's use.  The performance is informal.

ADJUDICATION This year we will continue the new tradition of adjudication for those schools who wish to participate.   The process is similar to that of the ABODA Band Competitions by which each school will receive a rating (superior, excellent, good...) and will also receive judges' comments for a variety of areas (choreography, performance ...).  In the spirit of promoting community and avoiding a competitive atmosphere, results will be sent to each school and not announced at the festival.  There will be an additional fee of $10 per school for adjudication in order to offset the costs for judges, paperwork, mailing etc...
